THE CARD PEOPLE I: The Scissors of Fate is the new fantasy novel by James Sulzer for ages ten and up. It is the first part of THE CARD PEOPLE series.
It is represented by literary agents Jack and Joan Ryan.
Plot summary:
After the mysterious disappearance of his father, twelve-year-old Paul Kapadia begins to notice something strange about the deck of playing cards that he and his father, a famous computer scientist, had used for their nightly card games. Sometimes it seems that the one-eyed Jack has turned its head; once or twice Paul thinks that the Queen of Diamonds winks at him; from time to time he is sure that the deck itself has moved from where he'd left it.
As Paul begins his quest to find out the truth about his father, he has to struggle with the growing presence of Curtis, a former scientific associate of the father who now seems to be courting Paul's mother. And at school, as Paul withdraws into his own world, the one classmate he wishes to talk with--his old friend Nim (an immigrant from Thailand)--is newly pretty and popular and seems to have no time for him. Paul's little brother Sam is spending all his time playing travel-team soccer and sitting in front of the TV, stuffing his face.
Then, it happens. Paul makes contact with the Card People and is drawn to help them in their battle for survival. He witnesses the quick evolution of their quirky and charming personalities and begins to sense their connection to his father and his life work. As their perilous adventure takes him to places and discoveries that lurk at the intersection of nanotechnology and magic, Paul begins to unravel the stunning secret of the Card People's existence and the desperate quest that led to his father's disappearance. Growing in understanding of himself and others, Paul connects again with Nim and, together with Sam, they strive to fulfill the dream that his father had left unfinished.
This novel for ages ten and up is the first of the series.

I think that someday, this book (or should I say these books) will be passed around for generations to come. I love the characters, the plot, just the whole book!

THE CARD PEOPLE is a great book by James Sulzer. This book was found and written because some friends and I asked him to tell us a story. This story is about a boy and his brother who lost their dad early in their lives (meaning their father disappeared). Their dad was a nano technician who had invented a dust that could turn things alive! After their father disappeared they discovered that a pack of cards was alive.

Sulzer's new novel is a captivating and interesting read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. A royal flush!!
